More layers you use the easier your life is. One super useful tip I can give you is the scale of the image, canvas size or resolution, is the determining factors for how many layers your project can have in procreate. I’m a novice with procreate but I found some really useful things to help me with my oil paintings from photos. So like any medium, and I work in a wide variety, I just exploit what I can do with digital One abstracting from memories of snowy daysĪnd One of the cartoons – there must be close to 100 now! One done in response to A 1940’s Billie Holliday song, Strange Fruit (about a lynching) part of a challenge to do work in response to lyrics/poetry And I still love my ‘real’ paints etcīelow is some of the stuff I’ve done over the last year I love using layers ( my paintings have always been layered, with glazes and scratching through etc) so it suits the way I think. I also gave them a page of their own Life with Kittens on fb If you look at my fb page I”ve shown replays of the drawings, a useful tool in Procreate. Cartoons done from memory, no photos involved as I can get more animation and narrative in a cartoon.

I can do these quickly, without getting out paints and change things easily as I go while incidents are fresh in my mind. I’m interested in what I can do with it creatively, using its different potential – so some digital paintings and since gaining 2 furry lodgers 4 months ago, a whole series about the mischief the kittens get up to.

I’m drawing more, simply because I can carry it with me wherever I go, it’s much lighter and easier than even my laptop. I think the best think about the working on a tablet, is that it is easy to pick up anywhere, when you are waiting to get the car repaired, or a medical appt, or even your easy chair at home. It hasn’t been updated for Version 5 yet, but 5 is out less than a month so hopefully, that will be updated soon.
#Procreate app dpi manual
There are lots of Youtube video tutorials, and a good manual by the developer that can be downloaded free. Procreate seems to be preferred by professionals, and there are so many brushes that are made for it, plus in this new version, you can download and import Photoshop brushes. There are many good drawing apps for iPad, all of which are pretty cheap, (under $20) and Sketchbook is free, so it’s easy to try a few and see which you prefer. I’m now using primarily Procreate on iPad, primarily because I’m teaching it locally. The iPad with touch sensitivity and the Apple Pencil has been a game changer. I worked in Photoshop and ArtRage on a desktop computer for many years.
